The Festival Orchestra leads audiences through Mahler’s “Titan,” a symphony celebrated for its darkly humorous funeral march and triumphant finale. Opening this program is Paul Wiancko’s new violin concerto, co-commissioned by Spoleto and written for renowned violinist Livia Sohn. Inspired by their longtime friendship, the concerto highlights Sohn’s virtuosity and their artistic bond forged at Spoleto.

About Timothy Myers
Timothy Myers is Music Director of the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra and the Sarah & Ernest Butler Music Director of Austin Opera. At Spoleto, he has led a period of notable artistic growth and rising national profile, expanding the orchestra’s repertoire, deepening its role across the Festival, and initiating a recording program that documents the ensemble’s evolving artistry. He appears regularly with leading symphony orchestras and major opera houses internationally and is recognized for a dynamic, incisive approach shaped by a belief in presence, risk, and the shared experience of live performance.

About Livia Sohn
Violinist Livia Sohn has captivated audiences around the world as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. A 15x Chamber performer and longtime favorite at Spoleto Festival USA, Sohn brings radiant artistry and emotional depth to every performance. Winner of the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition at just thirteen, she has since appeared with major orchestras across North America, Europe, and Asia, and performed in storied venues from Carnegie Hall to the Ravinia and Aspen festivals. Sohn currently serves on the faculty at Stanford University, performing on a 1770 J.B. Guadagnini violin.
