Spoleto Festival USA is receiving national recognition, with a feature in Galerie Magazine highlighting the Festival’s role in transforming Charleston into one of the country’s most dynamic destinations for the performing arts.

“Every spring, Spoleto Festival USA transforms Charleston, South Carolina, into America’s premier performing arts destination.”

“Charleston’s fabled streets lined with historic rowhouses become beautiful thoroughfares between opera at the Dock Street Theatre, jazz in a recital hall, and concerts at the College of Charleston.”

The article highlights several of the Festival’s distinctive performance spaces, including Dock Street Theatre and theCistern Yard on the campus of College of Charleston, which has become one of the Festival’s most atmospheric settings. As General Director and CEO Mena Mark Hanna explains in the article:

“You’re beneath these ancient mighty oak trees, under a canopy of Spanish moss, with a nationally registered historic building in the background. It is such a marriage of time and place, wildly beautiful and unique.”

For nearly five decades, the Festival has helped shape Charleston’s reputation as a cultural destination—where architecture, history, and performance intersect in unforgettable ways.

“If Charleston has become… ‘a cultural capital of the South and an artistic Mecca,’ it is in part because of the long game played by Spoleto Festival USA.”

The 2026 Festival runs May 22–June 7, once again inviting audiences to experience extraordinary performances across the historic city of Charleston and to discover the artistic energy that has made Spoleto Festival USA one of the nation’s most influential arts festivals.
