Choral music has long been one of the Festival’s most cherished traditions, from anchoring opera productions to filling Charleston’s historic churches with song. At the helm of the Festival’s choral activities is Joe Miller, who has led the Westminster Choir for the past 14 years. Though we are all missing the ensemble’s splendor this year, Dr. Miller has created a special Spoleto at Home playlist of the great choral music from past seasons. Take a look at his special video message first, then let the music take you away.

Digital Concert: Coming Together

Members of the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra coalesce virtually for a performance of Coming Together, a minimalist masterpiece from American composer Frederic Rzewski. This selection, says Festival Resident Conductor and Director of Orchestral Activities John Kennedy, “functions as a metaphor for confinement and conditional freedom. Its accompanying text is fragmented into parts, but when gathered and stitched together, it speaks to defiance and resolve.”
