Conducted by Jonathon Heyward
Outer space through a Charleston lens
The Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra presents an exhilarating lineup of repertoire, including “Rhapsodic Overture,” by Edmund Thornton Jenkins, a Charlestonian born in 1894, whose early music education was received at his father’s orphanage on King Street; Liszt’s sparkling Piano Concerto no. 1, performed by another Charleston son, Micah McLaurin; and Holst’s blockbuster The Planets—all under the baton of guest conductor Jonathon Heyward, who returns to his hometown for this spectacular evening of music making.
