Overview

Born in Buenos Aires, Sofía Rei is among the most inventive voices on the current New York City scene. “Her passion and clarity has been embraced from Carnegie Hall to the hippest downtown haunts” (The New York Times), and now extend to Spoleto Festival USA. Rei explores connections between South American folklore, jazz, flamenco, and electronic sounds, producing works that project an uplifting, melodic purity while maintaining driving rhythmic complexity. Rei’s Festival performances include six unique concerts in settings ranging from solo to quartet, with repertoire including famous and rarely heard songs from every corner of the Americas, along with original compositions.
