MUSIC IN TIME | DIALOGUES WITH PEDJA MUZIJEVIC

Venue: Simons Center Recital Hall at College of Charleston

Duration: Approximately 1 hour

Overview

Directed and hosted by John Kennedy

A longtime Festival chamber music favorite, pianist Pedja Muzijevic makes a guest appearance on the Music in Time series to offer his inventive Dialogues program. Four Haydn sonatas are interspersed with three modern works by Jonathan Berger, John Cage, and Morton Feldman, to offer listeners a fresh landscape for hearing works anew. In the words of Muzijevic: “I am actually more interested in placing music of different styles and ranges of expressions next to each other and observing whether hearing one helps us hear the other in a different way. A bit like the I. M. Pei pyramid next to the Louvre or a watermelon and feta cheese salad. Their aesthetics and flavors don’t merge or unite. Quite the contrary—their individual characteristics seem even more pronounced. But they make us experience them in a new and vibrant way.”

The Music In Time series also includes:
Tempus Fugit, May 28
Sounding Peace, May 31
Lecture on the Weather, June 5
