Venue: College of Charleston Cistern Yard

Duration: Approximately 1 hour, 15 minutes

Since its formation in 2009, this Boston-bred, Nashville-based string band has established a reputation for blurring the lines between bluegrass, folk, soul, and old-time traditions. Della Mae’s live show is charismatic and energetic, and lead singer Celia Woodsmith’s unvarnished yet intimate vocals are a perfect match for Charleston’s Cistern Yard—a dreamy venue calling for a musical vision encompassing southern roots and a contemporary sensibility. The band received an IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Award) and a Grammy nomination for best bluegrass album, and toured the world as cultural ambassadors in the U.S. State Department’s American Music Abroad program—an experience that helped shape the band’s sound into one with a distinct recognition of culture and collaboration.
