Choral music has long been one of the Festival’s most cherished traditions, from anchoring opera productions to filling Charleston’s historic churches with song. At the helm of the Festival’s choral activities is Joe Miller, who has led the Westminster Choir for the past 14 years. Though we are all missing the ensemble’s splendor this year, Dr. Miller has created a special Spoleto at Home playlist of the great choral music from seasons past. Take a look at his special video message first, then cue up your stereo
Joe Miller has served as the Festival’s Director of Choral Activities since 2013. Outside of the Festival, Miller has recently been appointed the new Director of Choral Studies at his alma mater, the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), a position he will begin later this year. This exciting career move comes on the heels of 14 years as director of the Westminster Choir and as director of the Philadelphia Orchestra’s Philadelphia Symphonic Choir, among other achievements. Choral music will continue to play a very important role at Spoleto Festival USA and we are grateful to have Miller at the helm.
