Rosanne Cash talks about the motivation and meaning
behind her recent recording, The List.

“I went on the road with my dad when I eighteen…and we started talking about songs. He mentioned a song and I said, ‘I don’t know that one.’ He mentioned another one, and I said, ‘I don’t know that one either, Dad.’ And he grew alarmed.  He spent the rest of the afternoon making a list for me, of songs. And across the top he wrote, ‘100 essential country songs.’ He gave me the list at the end and he said, ‘This is your education.’”

“I can’t believe how people respond to these songs. It’s like they’re hungry for these songs. It’s like how you can’t imagine the Scots without Celtic music. You can’t imagine us without these songs and people know it already.”

Rosanne Cash will be performing songs from “The List” as well as selections of her own songs on Sunday, June 2, at 7:30 pm at the TD Arena.
