René Marie

I Wanna Be Evil: With Love to Eartha Kitt is René Marie’s tribute to the legendary singer, actress and activist.  For her third Festival appearance, Marie will be joined onstage by Wycliffe Gordon (trombone), Etienne Charles (trumpet), Adrian Cunningham (saxophone, clarinet, flute), Kevin Bales (piano), Elias Bailey (double bass) and Quentin Baxter (drums) to perform Kitt classics such as I’d Rather Be Burned As A Witch, C’est Si Bon, Santa Baby & Let’s Do It alongside her own songs.

May 26 at 7:00pm

TD Arena at College of Charleston

Since making her professional singing career at the age of 42, René Marie has never been one for following rules, and so it is no surprise that she broke her own about never recording a tribute album with I Wanna Be Evil. The kinship she felt to Eartha Kitt was too irresistible and this is a chance to hear one of today’s greatest jazz singers interpret the songs of a true music legend with signature fire, sensuality and wit.
