You’d never know it from the chilly temperatures, but there is one sure sign that spring has arrived in Charleston: the opening of the Spoleto Festival USA Box Office. This year the Box Office is located at the Charleston Visitor Center at 375 Meeting Street, a move necessitated by the ongoing Gaillard Performance Hall renovations. “We could not be more pleased with the arrangement,” says Paula Edwards, Marketing Director for the Festival. “The Visitor Center staff has been incredibly supportive and easy to work with; the location is convenient for locals and especially for out-of-town attendees who may also need information about lodging, shopping, dining, and other attractions.”
After weeks of building at the Festival’s Scene shop, and a morning of loading in the beautiful new kiosks, computers, and ticket printers last Friday, The Box Office opened at 9:00 this morning—March 25—about two weeks earlier than it has in previous seasons, partly to take advantage of increased Visitor Center traffic over the busy period between Easter and the Cooper River Bridge Run. Ample parking is available at the Visitor Center, and it is free for the first half hour. And the best news of all: Festival tickets purchased at the Box Office are not subject to handling fees or service charges.
In related news, the Festival is expanding its popular Locals Day to a Locals Weekend on Saturday, April 13, and Sunday, April 14, that will tie into April’s Second Sunday on King Street event. Expect to see savings on select performances and special ticket packages offered at the Box Office on those two days.
