Festival Friday Radio is a new weekly blog series in which we will share playlists for your listening pleasure.  While you wait for the 2017 Festival to begin, tune in every Friday to hear these hand selected lists that will include top 10 songs by 2017 Spoleto Festival USA musicians, or an exclusive artist curated playlist.

Named 2015 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, saxophonist and flutist Charles Lloyd is a living legend whose work fuses jazz with non-Western musical styles that go beyond boundaries and broaden the genre. As one of the first popular musicians to incorporate global music into his jazz, Lloyd is known as an original “sound seeker,” looking to make connections between the modern and ancient world of music.

Lloyd and his quartet will return to Spoleto Festival USA for a third time to present one astonishing night of “postbop fire, bluesy crosstalk and lucid incantation” (The New York Times) in the Gaillard Center’s grand performance space—CLICK HERE for information and tickets. Before seeing them live on June 2, listen to “Sombrero Sam” and “Little Wahid’s Day” below to get a taste of this jazz quartet’s sound that spans the globe!
