“The Krugers are nothing short of magnificent.” —Bluegrass Journal

In an ever-expanding body of work, the Kruger Brothers personify the spirit of exploration and innovation at the core of the American musical tradition. Comprised of brothers Uwe and Jens Kruger (winner of the 2013 Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass) and Joel Landsberg, this acoustic trio combines blistering technique and lyrical warmth to create a fresh musical experience. As a teenager, Jens left Switzerland to spend a summer with Bill Monroe on his farm, learning the intricacies of bluegrass. At the end of his visit, Monroe encouraged Jens to create and pursue his own style, advice that launched his enterprise to extend the banjo’s territory. In 2002, the band released Up 18 North, an album that transcended the traditional roots-music repertoire and revealed their emerging musical identity—one characterized by delicate, concentrated energy and unbridled bliss; in 2003 they moved from Europe to North Carolina. Once you’ve heard the Kruger Brothers, you’ll never think of acoustic music the same way again.
