CONCERTO FOR ORCHESTRA

Sponsored By: South Carolina Bank and Trust

Venue: College of Charleston Sottile Theatre

Duration: Approximately 1 hour, 45 minutes

Overview

Charleston-raised conductor Joseph Young makes his Spoleto Festival USA debut leading the Festival Orchestra in a showcase of musical splendor. The program features Samuel Barber’s radiant Adagio for Strings and John Adams’s Doctor Atomic Symphony, a stirring symphonic adaptation of his 21st-century opera. Bela Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra is by turns playful, soulful, and exhilarating in its showcase of orchestral virtuosity.
